Private Lives and Public Health

Can what you don't know, hurt you?

Goal

  • what do you worry about regarding germs and bacteria?

  • how do you protect yourself, if at all?

The air that we breathe and the surfaces that we touch are continually being exchanged with other people. We keep ourselves clean to the degree that is convenient and satisfactory to us, and we expect others to do the same. But in a multicultural environment where behavior and habits are diverse, there can be no standard of hygiene.

For some, it is far simpler to assume our communal environments are safe from contamination then to question every shared contact. Others prefer to play it safe and take elaborate precautions. We have focused on 3 levels of contact that our hygine affects: self contact, social contact, and public contact.
