The current state of this project is that the system overall works - the platform for representing a messenger buddy community's status as ambient noise is mostly there, improvements are needed and the system still needs to be set up in a suitable space in the institute building to see how people would really use it/react to it.
There are some obvious key issues that need to be resolved:
- As it stands, the project is a combination of ambient noise generator and a instant messaging communal noticeboard - this needs to be further explored and defined - is this just an ambient system or something that would be useful for communication on a daily basis ? - is it possible to do both?
- If the sound aspect of ambient noise is to be persued, then much work and research needs to be done into the use of appropriate sound that people will really be able to live with in a shared space, it is becoming apparent that the area of informative/ambient sound is considerably more complex than previously anticipated.
- Maybe it would be good to store the 'last state' - currently it restarts from scratch each time.
- Still need a better name for the project...
